About the day
Welcome!
Help yourself to a hot drink.
The day starts with a basic discussion of anatomy, and health and safety so that you feel confident in safely carrying out massage; including how to hold your posture whilst massaging and where on the body to avoid applying pressure.
You then learn an effective back massage routine. One technique is demonstrated, then you get to practice it thoroughly before moving onto the next one. So there is no need to memorise anything. Then its your turn on the massage table, as the routine is carried out on you.
Lunchbreak
Enjoy a hot lunch in the canteen at Brathay’s lakeside setting (which is included in the price). This break is also a chance to ask the teacher any questions you may have about massage, or the holistic therapy industry.
In the afternoon you continue to observe, practice and receive massage of the arms and legs.
At the end of the workshop you will be able to give your partner, friends and family a brilliant massage.
You also receive access to a digital handbook with videos and notes to aid in your home massage therapy sessions.

Some of the massage techniques learnt
- Effleurage- the relaxing warmup move
- Wringing- soothe the nervous system
- Reinforced hands- to target tightness
- Forearm sweeps- iron out tension
